World class Public Speaking is a term that is often bandied about when referring to well known speeches and speakers. Often we look at these great orators and regard them as being in some ways "larger than life", "gifted" or even "lucky".
The truth is however that many of these men and women were initially barely adequate speakers who did have one or two things in common. All of them were motivated by a burning desire to do something, anything to address the issues which they saw faced the world around them. All of them also allowed themselves to be taught and were willing to do whatever it takes to reach out to others with their own unique message. Often this led to a remarkable statement or speech.
As part of the Toastmasters experience over the course of the next few months we will explore some of the most famous speeches, evaluate them and evaluate our own speeches. We will be amazed at what we can learn not only from these famous speakers but also what we can learn from our individual speaking styles.
So, join us at the next meeting as we share again with each other, deliver and listen to prepared speeches, explore the art of impromptu speaking, learn from insightful evaluations and perhaps experience a vivid image or two from the mouths and hearts of Gandhi, dr Martin Luther King, Elie Wiesel, Nelson Mandela and many others.
